Nigeria records 37 new Covid-19 cases as FG issues fresh travel advisory

Nigeria, on Monday, recorded 37 new coronavirus infections.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) which announced this via Twitter, confirmed the country’s total cases as 164, 756.

According to the agency, the fresh cases was recorded in six states; Lagos (26), Ogun (4), ,kaduna (2), Rivers (2), Kwara (3) and Edo (1).

The NCDC also revealed that 37 patients were discharged, taking the total recoveries to 154,963.

However, no fatality was recorded, according to the data released.

Meanwhile, glogbally there has been over 148 million cases, nearly 86 million recoveries and more than 3.12 million deaths.

Although the United States of America is the epicentre with over 32 million infections, India is recording a frightening surge in the last one month.

The death toll is nearing the bleak milestone of 200,000 with another 2,771 fatalities reported on Tuesday while its armed forces have pledged urgent medical aid to help battle the staggering spike in infections.

Over the past 24 hours, India recorded 323,144 new cases, slightly below a worldwide peak of 352,991 reached on Monday.

With that in mind, the Federal Government has said that it will issue a fresh travel advisory within 48 to 72 hours for travellers coming into the country from regions where there is a surge in COVID infections.

Secretary of the Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) on COVID-19, Mukhtar Mohammed, made this revelation on Monday.

Mohammed hinted that the government may impose travel restrictions on travellers from India, Turkey, Brazil and South Africa — where there has been a spike in infections.
