The controversial Nigerian National League (NNL) Super Eight playoff to determine which teams will be promoted to the elite league has once again been shifted to Saturday in order to allow all the teams involved to be in attendance in Aba, Abia state.

The commencement of the 2018/19 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season has been held up by the protracted battle by the second tier NNL to get eight teams promoted to the top division as against the stipulated four.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) had on December 20 fixed the Super 8 playoffs for January 3, 2019 with the NPFL slated to commence on the 13th of January.

In a new twist however, the Nigerian National League (NNL) have written to the NFF for the postponement of the Super 8 by two days, as against the January 3 date earlier fixed by the NFF.

Three teams; Real Stars of Kaduna, Gombe United of Gombe and Delta Force of Asaba look confirmed for the playoff while uncertainty still surrounds the participation of the other five teams: Kada FC, Insurance FC, Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), Remo Stars and Kogi United.

“A source told our correspondent on Thursday that there is no single team in the ancient city”.

“An official of one of the clubs has confirmed that the NFF has accepted the NNL’s request, so competition should begin on the 5th.

It is yet to be seen whether the NNL Super 8 will take place or not.
