Nigeria has finally shut the door against all international flights coming into the country due to the rising Coronavirus infection.
Barely 24-hours after it announced the closure of the international airports in Kano, Port Harcourt and Enugu to foreign flights, leaving only the ones in Lagos and Abuja, the Federal Government on Saturday added the two major flight gateways to the list, effectively stopping air transport contacts with the rest of the world.
In a circular issued on Saturday in Lagos, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) said: “further on our earlier letter on restriction of international flights into Nigeria, we wish to inform you that effective Monday 23rd March at 2300Z ar 23rd April at 2300Z, Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos (DNMM) and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja (DNAA) will be closed to international flights. ”
It added: ” Emergency and essential flights are exempted from this restriction. Henceforth, all airports in Nigeria are closed to all incoming flights with the exception of emergency and essential flights.
“Domestic flights will continue normal operations at all airports.”
