NSE: Bears return as equity market sheds N196bn

Trading activities on the floor of Nigerian Stock Exchange opened week in bearish trend, declining by N196 billion.

Specifically, market capitalisation of listed equities depreciated by 1.61 per cent to N12.004 trillion from N 12.200 trillion it closed on Friday.

Also the NSE All Share index sheds 525.13 basis points to 32190.07 points from 32715.20 points traded the previous day. Investors exchanged 233.423 million shares worth N3.363 billion in 4134 deals against 808.646 million shares valued at N6.486 million exchanged hands previously in 6177 deals.

A breakdown of the transactions during the day, showed that Nestle Nigeria Plc led gainers table for the day, gaining N35.00 to close at N1800.00, Betaglass followed with a gain of N6.70 kobo to close at N79.00, Presco PLC gained N6.60 kobo to close at N72.60 kobo, Cap PLC added N2.20 kobo to close at N34.00 while Dangote Flour increased by N0.45 kobo to close at N9.60 kobo.

On the contrary, Total Nigeria Plc recorded the highest loss during the day, dropping by N15.00 to close at N190.00, Mobil Oil trailed with a loss of N8.00 to close at N75.00, Guaranty Trust Bank down by N1.45 kobo to close at N36.50 kobo while Cement Company of Northern Nigeria declined by N1.00 to close at N20.00

Further break down of the investment indicated that Access Bank Plc was the most active stock during the day, trading 25.321 million shares worth N160.162 million, Chams Plc followed with account of 21.700 million shares valued at N4.340 million, United Bank for Africa traded 20.448 million shares cost N157.194 million, Zenith Bank Plc exchanged 15.682 million shares cost N375.323 million while Guaranty Trust Bank traded a total of 13.862 million shares valued at M519.122 million.
