Omo Ghetto The Saga overtakes The Wedding Party as highest-grossing Nollywood movie

Nigerian film “Omo Ghetto (The saga) is making waves as Nollywood highest grossing movie of all time.

The film was produced by ace actress and award winning icon leader, Funke Akindele-Bello popularly known as Jenifa.

The 2020 comedy film has overthrown Kemi Adetiba’s “The wedding party” comedy film, breaking the record after four years.

The actress, Funke Akindele Bello, had on Tuesday January 26, revealed the news on Instagram.

According to the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria, the comedy film “Omo Ghetto The Saga” has so far grossed N468,036,300 after holding the number one spot for its third week in a row.

The movie “The Wedding Party” had been Nollywood Highest-Grossing Movie with, with the sequel, “The Wedding Party 2” following behind with N433,197,377 as the third in line.

The most shocking aspect of the story is the booming response the movie “Omo Ghetto The Saga” got amidst pandemic.

The comedy film “Omo Ghetto The Saga” which is a sequel to the 2010 comedy film “Omo Ghetto” released by the same producer, Funke Akindele Bello, was released on Christmas day, December 25, 2020.

The movie centred on Shalewa Lefty who was acted by Funke Akindele herself.

Lefty (Funke Akindele) struggled between living a life of wealth and comfort provided by her adopted mother and returning to her ghetto lifestyle.

The comedy film stars include Funke Akindele who played the dual role of Ayomide and Lefty, Tina Mba, Chioma Akpotha, Eniola Badmus, Deyemi Okanlawan, and Adebayo Salami.

Others are Zubby Michael, Mercy Aigbe, Timini Egbuson, Alex Ekubo among others
