The Ondo State Police have arrested a prophet for raping an eight-month-old-pregnant woman in Agbadu village in Ondo state.
The prophet, Festus James, when interrogated blamed the devil for the act.
Parading the suspect before newsmen yesterday, Thursday, November 18, the state command’s spokesperson, Funmi Odunlami, said the prophet who came from Ibadan on a three-day revival, allegedly raped the 22-year-old woman under the guise of performing deliverance on her.
Odunlami said, “On the 13th November, 2021, one Festus James ‘m’ from Ibadan in Oyo State went to Agbabu village via Ore, claimed to be a Prophet and that the Holy Spirit directed him to have a 3 days Holy Ghost Revival in a Church in the village.
“The next day, the prophet claimed to have seen a vision concerning a 22 years old lady who was 8 months pregnant and told her to wait behind after the programme.
“He took the pregnant lady into one of the rooms in the mission house under the guise of delivering her from an evil spirit and had carnal knowledge of her.
“The suspect confessed to the commission of the crime.”
The suspect, who confessed to the crime denied raping the victim, but claimed his act was the manifestation of the devil.
“l did not know what came over me when I was carrying out the ungodly act.
“I had sex with her truly, but it was not rape; I did not rape her. I always went there for revival. But honestly, I didn’t know what came over me that caused me to do that.
“It was the work of the devil,” the suspect said.
The spokesperson said the suspect will be charged to court soon.
