The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has named Ife-Moro road in Osun State after the former spokesperson of Afenifere, late Comrade Olayinka Odumakin.
He renamed the road ‘Olayinka Odumakin Boulevard’ during the burial of the late activist on Saturday at Moro, the home town of the activist.
āSimilarly an ultra-modern garden has been named in your honour in my privately owned Students Village in Obafemi Awolowo University where a dignified bronze bust will be unveiled in your eternal honour,ā the monarch disclosed.
Oba Ogunwusi, who was represented by Chief Kemade Elugbade at the funeral service of Odumakin on Saturday in Moro, described the late human rights activist as an unforgettable patriotic descendant of Oduduwa and a positive factor in Nigeriaās democracy.
The Monarch noted that Odumakin died when Yoruba nation in particular and Nigeria at large needed him the most.
He said: āThe news of Odumakinās demise was a very bitter pill to swallow for the entire country and to us particularly in the House of Oduduwa.
āHe was a disciplined Yoruba leader who has been one of the loudest pro-democracy voices in the country.
āYou were not only a worthy son of the House of Oduduwa. You lived Oduduwa land. You breathe Oduduwa.
āYou worked tirelessly for Oduduwa. Your insightfully penetrative perspective on Yoruba cause is uncommon. Neither is your incisively biting criticism of our steps, delivered impassionately.ā
