American actor, Will Smith, has hit comedian Chris Rock angrily on his face for mocking his wife, Jada Smith.
Recall that the couple had trended two years ago, surprising their fans with a revelation of infidelity with a popular singer, August. And since then, it has always been a topic for the couple.
Chris Rock, during his presentation for the best documentary prize, had made a joke about Jada’s cropped hair to Demi Moore’s appearance in a movie titled G.I. Jane, which he had suggested Jada take part in a sequel.
What quickly followed was a huge silence and a few laughs before Will Smith, who had previously laughed to the joke, walked to the stage, hitting Chris Rock hard on his face before returning to his seat.
He continued with the use of profanities as soon as he got back to his seat. “Keep my wife’s name out of your f*cking mouth… ”
A sobbing Smith was pulled away by actors Denzel Washington and Tyler Perry during a commercial break.
Will Smith, after receiving his award, had later spoken about the mistreatment actors go through in the industry as regards jokes often seen as mild which sometimes might be the opposite in their daily lives.
Jada Smith has been open about a medical condition called Alopecia which has made her cut her hair low.
