About 5100 persons were given COVID-19 vaccine in 48 hours across the country, a data from the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) revealed.

This is after the data disclosed that a total of 1,101,827 Nigerians have been vaccinated as of Monday, April 19, 2021.

As at Saturday, last week, data showed that 1,096,727 Nigerians were vaccinated, making a difference of 5100 in 48 hours, between Saturday (18th April) and Monday (20th April), which is in 48 hours.

The data from NPHCDA also showed that 11 states are yet to reach the 50 per cent target mark of the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. This brings the proportion of those vaccinated to 54.8 per cent.

The states are Abia (31.8), Akwa Ibom (36.5), Anambra (28.2), Bayelsa (48.3), Ebonyi (38.8), Enugu (37.7), FCT (44.9), Imo (48.3), Rivers (38.7), Sokoto (34.5), Taraba (31.9).

However, the rate of vaccination across the country has raised major concern that Nigerians are yet to accept that the vaccine is safe, as feared by the Federal Government, even before it arrived the country.

A lot of sensitizations were carried out by the FG, including asking government officials, clerics, celebrities and politicians to receive the jab on national television, in order to convince the masses.

Compared to the 5100 vaccination in 48 hours, the rate of daily vaccinations reportedly administered in the U.S. held above 3 million for 10 straight days as of Friday last week, according to data from the country’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Also in England, data showed that the number of first doses administered each day averages around 105,000 while about 33 million people have had a first vaccine dose and more than 10 million have had a second.

Although, tens of thousand cases of new infections are being reported on daily basis in the United States and other countries, while new cases have continued to drop in Nigeria.
