Governor of Osun State Gboyega Oyetola has sought the support of the Federal Government for the ongoing Osun State International Airport Project.

The Ministry of Aviation made this was disclosure on Thursday on its Twitter handle saying the governor paid a visit to the Minister seeking his support for the project.

The tweet read: “Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State has visited Aviation Minister, Sen. @hadisirika in his office to solicit support for the State’s #AirportProject. The State is currently implementing a project to build an Int’l. airport at Ido Osun, Ede North/ Egbedore LGA.”

Recall that Osun State is currently implementing a project to build an International airport at Ido Osun, Ede North/ Egbedore Local Government Areas.

According to the state government sources, the airport will serve human and cargo transportation. The project site also holds an interesting historic value; it was the site of one of the early airstrips in Nigeria.

Recently, the state government through the Commissioner for Works and Transportation, Remi Owowaiye had said a new investor had been found for the airport project.

The State’s Commissioner for Works and Transportation, Remi Owowaiye, disclosed this on Friday during the Ministerial Press Conference organised by the Ministry of Information and Civic Orientation.

This was after the former Governor of the state, Rauf Aregbesola in 2018 said that a concession agreement which was entered with AWOL International Limited, a private consultancy firm, on the project had failed.
