Pandemonium as heavily armed rival factions of NURTW clash in Lagos

A clash between rival groups of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), in the Obalende area of Lagos State is ongoing, leaving the area pandemonium.

The clash which broke out on Thursday morning around 8am, forced residents to scamper for safety as gunshots are heard.

In a video that is currently viral on social media, the rival groups are seen heavily armed and shooting sporadically.

Several properties are reported to have been destroyed, while scores reportedly sustained injuries.

Amid the clash, motorists and residents have been advised to take alternative routes, pending the arrival of security personnel.

The Complaint Response Unit of the Nigeria Police Force which, responded to the video, said, “DPOs and other policemen are on ground addressing the situation. “Thank you for contacting NPF-CRU.”

However, the cause of the clash is yet still unknown at press time.
