Gov. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara has urged the state’s pilgrims for this year’s Hajj to pray for the progress of the state and Nigeria.

The governor made the plea in the early hours of Wednesday as the last batch of pilgrims from the state were transported to Saudi Arabia for the pilgrimage.

A statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, quoted Abdulrasaq as urging the pilgrims to be good ambassadors of the state.

“I have come to see you off. I have come to bid you farewell to the Holy land.

“Don’t forget Kwara when you get there. Don’t forget Nigeria. Pray for us. Pray for the progress of our state, ” he said.

The head of the state’s contingent, Alhaji L’Azizi Jimoh, thanked the governor for the visit which he described as unprecedented.

“This is the first time a governor will come here to personally bid farewell to the pilgrims. We are grateful,” Jimoh said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a total of 2,026 persons are performing the holy pilgrimage from Kwara.

The last batch of 365 pilgrims from Kwara were airlifted on Wednesday.
