The Federal Government have almost N20bn in its coronavirus war chest from the private sector, according to the Coalition Against Coronavirus (CACOVID).

A glut of well-spirited Nigerian billionaire businessmen, women and multinationals in the country have shown support for the country’s fight against the novel pandemic.

At the top of the pile is Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) with donations of N2 billion each to the relief fund.

Abdulsamad Bui, Segun Agbaje, Tony Elumelu, Oba Otudeko, Jim Ovia, Herbert Wigwe, Femi Otedola, Raj Gupta and the Alakijas contributed N1 billion a piece.

Thirty-six others made different contributions, totalling N19,488, 500,000.

In the circular signed by CBN’S Director Cooperate Communications, Isaac Okoroafor, on Friday, pledges from Mike Adenuga and MTN are, however, still being expected.

Recall that Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, denied that the Presidential Task Force had access to the funds.

He said: “We have not received even one kobo; people want us probed for how we spent monies we have not even seen.”

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control on Friday confirmed six new cases in the country, taking the tally to 190.
