Purple Rain actor, Clarence Williams III, dies at 81

American actor, Clarence Williams III, has died from colon cancer at age 81.

His manager, Allan Mindel, confirmed the news on Sunday.

The American actor reportedly died at his home in Los Angeles on Friday, June 4, 2021, after a long battle with colon cancer.

Williams is survived by his daughter, sister, niece and grandnephews and grandniece.

He played the cool undercover cop Linc Hayes on the counterculture series, “The Mod Squad”, and Prince’s father in “Purple Rain”.

Williams began his career in a production of “Dark of the Moon,” and appeared on Broadway in “The Great Outdoors”.

He started on Broadway as a paratrooper and received a Tony nomination for his role in William Hanley’s “Slow Dance on the Killing Ground” in 1964.

Williams also starred in movies and several shows like “Purple Rain”, “Against the Wall”, “52 Pick-up”, “Reindeer Games”, “The General’s Daughter”,”American Gangster”, e.t.c.
