The 28-year-old died from the injuries caused by the stabbing on Saturday, December 18.

He was scheduled to perform at the Once Upon Time in LA festival.

His death was announced by his publicist on Sunday morning.

According to witnesses, the rapper was stabbed during an altercation backstage before he could perform.

Los Angeles police confirmed that investigation is still on but no arrest has been made concerning the incident.

Paramedics had responded to a 911 call about a stabbing at about 20:40 local time on Saturday (04:40 GMT on Sunday) and the rapper was transported to a hospital where he later died.

The festival’s promoter, Live Nation, confirmed that there was an “altercation in the roadway backstage” at the event, which was also scheduled to include performances from rappers 50 Cent and Snoop Dogg.

The festival had also ended abruptly after, which was an hour early than the stipulated time.

The statement said, “Out of respect for those involved and in co-ordination with local authorities, artists and organisers decided not to move forward with remaining sets so the festival was ended an hour early.”

Tributes have been pouring in on social media handles since his death.

Canadian rapper, Drake, wrote, “Always picked my spirit up with your energy. RIP Drakeo.”

In a post on Twitter, LA writer Jeff Weiss said, “… greatest west coast artist of a generation, a legend who invented a new rap language of slippery cadences, nervous rhythms, and psychedelic slang.”

He is best known for his single “Talk to Me” which had gained more than 1.5m monthly listeners. The song featured Canadian rapper, Drake.
