Rep Members demand apology as NIDCOM boss shuns budget defence

The Members of the House of Representatives, have demanded an apology from the Chairprrson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, after she failed to appear to defend the commission’s 2021 budget on Tuesday.

Thee Commission’s chairman was to appear before the House Committee on Diaspora Matters, to defend NIDCOM’s budget proposal for 2021.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa was yet to arrive at the meeting venue as at 12:17pm for a session that was scheduled to start at 11:00am, after which, the committee had to adjourn the sitting.

The Chairman of the committee, Tolulope Akande-Sadipe, before ruling on a motion for adjournment, condemned Dabiri-Erewa for stalling the lawmakers.

The chairman expressed disappointment that the NIDCOM boss allegedly chose to honour an invitation by the Senate rather than appearing before the committee.

The NIDCOM boss, Dabiri-Erewa, later showed up at about 12 minutes after members of the committee had dispersed.

Dabiri-Erewa was seen going into the Committee chairman’s office.

It was gathered that the NIDCOM boss had resolved the issue with the committee and the hearing had been rescheduled.
