About 60 hectares of rice farm in Saminaka, Shanga Local Government Area, Kebbi State are currently being harvested by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

This was disclosed by the Director General (DG) of the NYSC, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, on Monday in which it said its farm settlements across the country are currently being upgraded especially with supply of equipment and other vital agricultural inputs.

According to him, the objective on the long term is to explore available opportunities of the scheme in totality while also adding that the scheme’s farms, including the large ones in the FCT, Bauchi, Kebbi and Oyo States, will contribute to the Federal Government’s efforts towards ensuring food security.

Ibrahim added that he will enlist corps members with requisite skills and training.
”We are working towards harnessing our revenue generation potential through the reinvigoration of the various NYSC ventures.

“Presently, we are harvesting rice in our sixty-hectare rice farm in Saminaka, Shanga LGA of Kebbi State.”

Experts have argued that the Agricultural sector can be made more attractive to the youths through conscious efforts such as this.
