About four persons have been reported dead on Tuesday in Abuja when combined security operatives allegedly attacked members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) otherwise known as Shi’ites during Arbaeen Symbolic Trek.

The incident occurred at Gwarinpa gate near Galadimawa along Kubwa expressway when armed security agents arrived and started shooting indiscriminately at the crowd in an attempt to break the peaceful procession.

The situation led to pandemonium in the area as residents were seen running helter-skelter to avoid being caught up.

The Secretary of Academic Forum of IMN, Abdullahi Musa who spoke to newsmen also confirmed the incident.

He said the security agents took away some dead bodies in the process.

Arbaeen Symbolic Trek is an annual event to mark the fortieth day of the murder of Imam Hussein, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad who was killed on 10th Muharram.
