Afrobeat singer, D’Banj, has been arrested and detained by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over fraud allegations.
The singer was reported to have been arrested on Tuesday, December 6, and detained in Abuja.
He was arrested over fraudulent diversion of hundreds of naira earmarked by the Nigerian government for N-Power project, an empowerment programme set up by the Nigerian government in 2016 to address youth unemployment and increase social development.
According to the commission, D’Banj had failed to show up after several invitations following a petition from some unnamed petitioners. He had been claiming to be overseas for scheduled concerts.
The commission had taken steps to arrest the singer anywhere they saw him after he refused to honour their invitation.
He has since been subjected to interrogation.
