South African Afro-pop star Bulelwa Mkutukana, also known as Zahara, is dead. She was aged 36.

Reports revealed that the Pop star died in a Johannesburg hospital following a short battle with liver ailment.

Her family had announced the passing of their loved one on Tuesday.

In reaction to her death, the South African Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture, Zizi Kodwa, on his X page said, “I’m very saddened by the passing of @ZaharaSA. My deepest condolences to the Mkutukana family and the South African music industry.

“The government has been with the family for some time now. Zahara and her guitar made an incredible and lasting impact in South African music.”

The ‘Loliwe’ crooner is reported to have been hospitalised since November due to problems with her liver. She was reported to have been unresponsive last week.
