Supremes co-founder, Mary Wilson, dies aged 76

American R&B, Soul and Pop singer, Mary Wilson, has died in her home, aged 76.

According to her publicist, the singer had died in her sleep on Monday, February 8, 2021 in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.

She was born on March 6, 1944 in Greenville, Mississippi, United States, and survived by three children, Pedro Antonio Jr, Turkessa and Rafael.

Mary Wilson gained worldwide recognition as a founding member of The Supremes, the most successful Motown act of the 1960s.

Wilson was a New York Times best -selling author in 1986 with the release of her first autobiography, ‘Dreamgirl: My Life as a supreme’.

She was inducted along with Ross and Ballard into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.

Married to Pedro Ferrer in Las Vegas Nevada on May 11, 1974, the union had produced three children. She also adopted her cousin, Willie.

The late singer had received an associate degree from New York University in 2001. Mary is blessed with 10 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter which she disclosed on the 2nd episode of season 28 of ‘Dancing with the stars on September 2019’.

The cause of her death is still unknown.

Mary had announced on Youtube on Saturday February 6, that she was planning to release new solo material with the Universal Music Group which was speculated to be released on March 6.

Motown founder Berry Gordy said he was “extremely shocked and saddened”.

He said, “I was extremely shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of a major member of the Motown family, Mary Wilson of the Supreme.”
