A total of 40 unemployed youths in Lagos have begun training in skills acquisition under the Advanced National Open Apprenticeship Scheme (A-NOAS) scheme put together by the National Directorate of Employment (NDE).

The Lagos Coordinator, Mrs. Serena Edward, while speaking on Thursday, said the programme was a rare opportunity by NDE Acting Director- General, Mallam Abubakar Fikpo, to fight unemployment in the country.

According to Edward, the 40 graduated youths from the Basic National Open Apprenticeship Scheme will undergo a three-month intensive training known as A-NOAS to re-sharpen their horizon, methodology and skills with the sole aim of making them experts in their fields and better equipped for the international market.

Some of the trades they would be trained include Electrical engineering, catering, printing, shoe making amongst others.

Speaking further, she disclosed that NDE equips trainees in four core programmes of which the vocational skill development is one.
