Tokyo 2020: Bermuda becomes smallest country to win Olympics gold

History was made as Duffy becomes the first gold medalist for her country – Bermuda.

Bermuda being the smallest country with about 62,000 people have been put on the books of history in women’s triathlon events at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Summer Games.

Flora Duffy earned the gold medal in the event with a time of 1:55:36.

She took first place more than a minute ahead of Britain’s Georgia Taylor-Brown and the US’s Katie Zaferes.

In an interview, Duffy said “It’s been a heck of a lot of pressure for five years,”

“I would never recommend being an Olympic favourite for five years. Of course it’s made it all worth it now.” she added

“I think the whole of Bermuda is going crazy. That’s what makes it so special to me is that, yes, this was my dream, but I also knew it was bigger than me.”
