President-elect Joe Biden has urged the Senate to address the priorities of his agenda while playing its role in the second impeachment of Donald Trump.

President Donald Trump was impeached for the second time on Wednesday on the charge of incitement of insurrection which led to the death of five persons in the Capitol invasion last week.

The final vote was 232-197, with 10 House Republicans supporting the measure to make Trump the first US President to be impeached twice by the House.

In his first comments on the impeachment on Wednesday, Biden said the US is faced with the coronavirus pandemic and an ailing economy, and he needs the Senate to approve his cabinet choices swiftly so the new administration can get to work after he takes office January 20 as he will not also stand in the way of the impeachment.

“I hope that the Senate leadership will find a way to deal with their Constitutional responsibilities on impeachment while also working on the other urgent business of this nation,” Biden said in a statement.
