Two children have died following a building collapse in the Lagos Island area of Lagos State.

According to the Acting coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye, the collapsed structure was a three-storey building located at No. 20 Freeman street, Lagos Island.

The deceased were two children of the same parents while the parents were part of the eight people said to have been rescued from the incident which occurred on Saturday around 4:05am.

The building collapse left some occupants injured, and some of those who were said to have been rescued alive are currently receiving treatment.

The neighbours were the ones who called for help as the building collapsed while the occupants were fast asleep.

Mr. Farinloye explained that the collapsed building was occupied by about 10 people, part of which was a family that newly moved into the apartment.

“The affected families just newly moved into the building as the previous occupants had moved out with the excuses that renovation would be carried out. But it was alleged that the developer brought in these affected population while renovation works are still ongoing,” he stated.
