Suspected bandits have killed two passengers and kidnapped many others during an operation on the Bwari-Jere road close to Bwari town in Abuja.

The attack happened on Friday night after the gunmen blocked the busy road near Ganmi junction for an hour and carried out their activities.

According to reports, the bandits regularly block the road to kidnap travellers.

Confirming this to newsmen on Monday, one of the villagers, Isah John, disclosed that several vehicles coming from both Kaduna and Bwari axis ran into the blockage. He said two passengers were shot dead by the bandits and several others were kidnapped.

Throughout the operation, gunshots were heard in villages like Ganmi, Garam, Idah and other neighbouring communities, which threw the people into panic, according to the report.

A resident of Ganmi, who craved anonymity, said the bandits had earlier blocked the road at the same junction two weeks ago and kidnapped five people.

He said the victims paid huge ransom before they were freed, adding that, “After they were freed, the bandits came out again on Friday night to abduct many more people.”
