Veteran actor, Yinka Ogundaisi, is dead

Veteran actor, Yinka Ogundaisi, has passed on after a long battle with paralysis.

His demise was announced by a member of a group, Ibadan Film Circle (IFC), with the name, Ropo Ewenla. A group which the deceased was in before his passing.

Ropo wrote on how the information got to him. According to him, he called a close relative to confirm. He also stated that the actor died in the early hours of Wednesday, June 15.

He wrote, “Today, this morning, one phase of history came to an end. Erin ti wo. The elephant rises no more.

“Yinka Ogundaisi bid this world farewell at dawn. It was Kate Adepegba who dropped the bomb on my lap. I called Uncle Yinka’s number to confirm and rudely, it was so.”

He had suffered a condition which had rendered his legs paralysed and had been unable to undergo surgery due to lack of funds, this had left him bedridden for years.

He died at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital and has been taken to Ibadan for burial. He was buried the same evening on the day he passed on.

According to reports, his initial diagnosis had been on his hernia, intestines and enlarged prostate.

He is best known for his role as the legendary Sango in the film Oba Koso after legend Duro Ladipo. He was a writer, director of films, TV and radio programmes.

He was the author of The Charmed Lock, a crime fiction novel based on African hypnotism.
