Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen, has been ruled out of next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Osimhen was diagnosed with multiple displaced facial fractures after a clash of heads with Inter defender Milan Skriniar on Sunday.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Osimhen had a successful surgery and he is expected to return at the latest in March.

His manager at Napoli, Luciano Spalletti had hoped that his talisman would return sooner.

The Tuscan tactician delivered an injury update in an interview with Sky Sport Italia.

“I hope he will return against Milan, the doctors told me that the surgery won’t prevent him from being available in three or four games,” Spalletti said.

However, fresh reports reveal that the Nigerian won’t play any part in his club’s Serie A surge and the AFCON with Nigeria.

Osimhen scored five goals in his last five appearances for the Super Eagles seeking a fourth continental championship.

He has also found the target nine times in 14 matches for Napoli.

The 2021 AFCON tournament runs from January 9 to February 6 with Nigeria drawn in Group D alongside Egypt, Sudan and Guinea-Bissau.
