The Super Eagles have reached the playoffs of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers following a 1-1 draw with Cape Verde today.

The three-time African champions needed to avoid defeat in their final Group B clash with the Islanders at the Teslim Balogun Stadium to reach the final phase of the qualifiers and they did.

Although unconvincing, Gernot Rohr’s men survived a late assault by the visitors.

Napoli star, Victor Osimhen, gave Nigeria a dream start after just a minute of action with his fourth goal of the series.

However, the Blue Sharks pegged back four minutes later through Stopira.

Both sides had chances to bury the tie but couldn’t convert.

The draw means Nigeria finished top with 13 points – two more than Cape Verde.

Liberia’s 3-1 victory over Central African Republic in the group’s other clash lifted them to third with six points.

The Eagles join DR Congo, Egypt, Mali, Morocco and Senegal in the third and final qualifying round.
