The Department of State Services (DSS) has denied reports that three lawmakers in the Gombe House of Assembly were arrested by its operatives.

The lawmakers were reportedly invited following indications that they were plotting the impeachment of the Speaker, Abubakar Luggerewo, who took over from Sadiq Kurba after he was impeached.

Reacting to calls from the press, the Information Officer, Gombe State House of Assembly, Abubakar Umar, stated that he could not confirm the authenticity of the news.

“I saw it on the Facebook on my way to the office, but I don’t know how true. But I’m not sure about it authenticity, maybe when I get to the office I will get one or two things. As far as I’m concerned everything is going normal,” he said.

Debunking the arrest, State Director Security Services, Abdullahi Adams, described the viral message as untrue, noting that the service has no reason to arrest any lawmaker.

Adams said, “No, not at all. It is false, no body invited anybody. We have no reason to invite and there was nothing like that. There was no criminal issue or reason, honestly there is nothing like that.”
