‘When They See Us’ star, Suzzanne Douglas, is dead

American actress and ‘When They See Us’ star, Suzzanne Douglas, has died at 64.

The actress was born in Chicago, Illinois U.S on April 12, 1957.

A Facebook post was made by her cousin, Angie Tee, on Tuesday, July 6, 2021. There, she made the announcement, describing the actress as a beautiful soul.

She wrote, “A beautiful and talented actress made her transition today. She warmed our hearts on movie screens and television sets all over the world. This beautiful soul was my cousin.

“Can remember growing up, there weren’t very many Black actresses who had starring roles but there was my cousin with the lead role in Tap starring alongside great dancers such as Gregory Hines and Sammy Davis Jr.

“She also performed with Angela Bassett and Whoopi Goldberg in How Stella Got Her Groove Back. The Inkwell, Jason’s Lyric and so much more the list goes on. The world will miss your talent but your soul will live on forever Rest in Paradise my beautiful cousin Suzzane you will be missed RIP.”

Adding some Bible quotes, she wrote, “Psalm 34:18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

“Psalm 147:3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

Her friend, Stephanie Moore, added: “I got to stand beside greatness. Suzanne Douglas Cobb, I love you dear lady. Thanks for always checking on me and for showing me elegance and grace walking. I’ve got a heavy heart, but I’m blessed to be a part of the legacy you touched. I am better because I knew you.” You can see that note below, as well.

For her lead role in Tap in 1989, Douglas won an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in Tap (1989). She starred in other movies like ‘How Stella Got Her Groove Back’ (2015), ‘When They See Us’ (2019), ‘The Good Wife’ and other guest roles like The Cosby Show.

She earned a Bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University before moving on to have her Master’s degree in Music from the Manhattan School of Music.
