Radical SCOTUS and bluenose evangelical Christians poised to eliminate women’s right to choose; Why both are dangerous and must be stopped

By LaBode Obanor

It was 52 years ago when Dallas County District Attorney Henry Wade was hauled into court to defend the constitutionality of the Texas criminal abortion laws, “which proscribe procuring or attempting an abortion except on medical advice for the purpose of saving the mother’s life.”

The class-action suit made its way to the apex court of the United States, now popularly known as Roe v. Wade. In that case, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Jane Roe, affirming a woman’s right to choose as it concerns her body. The court stated:  “The Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment protects against state action the right to privacy, and a woman’s right to choose to have an abortion falls within that right to privacy. A state law that broadly prohibits abortion without respect to the stage of pregnancy or other interests violates that right.”

This landmark ruling has been the law of the land for 50-plus years.

Sadly, that is about to change if the draft leaked decision of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization becomes law. The same court that told us that the right to abortion in the first trimester shall not be interfered with or regulated by the State, that “only the pregnant woman and her attending physician can make that decision,” is now poised to tell us that it was a lie?

That a woman has no constitutionally protected right to her body? That a state may criminalize a woman if she aborts a child within 12 weeks of pregnancy?

The mere thought can make any reasonable person shake theirhead in disbelief at the absurdity.

This Supreme Court stated in January 1973 that the right to abortion is a fundamental right requiring full protection from government encroachment. Found to be implicit in the liberty guarantee of the due process clause of the 14th amendment of the U.S. Constitution. And that a fundamental right is an essential human right that cannot be eliminated.

You cannot tell the country that women have a fundamental right to privacy that will not be abridged and then flip-flopped that the same right doesn’t exist a few decades later.

These decisions are wholly incompatible and reveal the deep rotin the Supreme Court. This decision will undoubtedly validate the concerns that these rabid right-wing gangs in the court, andtheir Christian acolytes, will stop at nothing to drive their debilitating ideological views on the rest of the country. The credibility or legitimacy of the court be damned.

If the court stands by its leaked draft opinion and publishes this ruling. In that case, the judiciary is permanently diminished. The pro-life agitators would have succeeded in their dangerous gambit setting the country tumbling down a precipice that it may not recover from for a long time.

Before some Christians, evangelical adherents and their pentecostal lackeys begin to throw bombs and accuse others of not being Christian enough. However, many of you are happy religious minions and epigone of your pastors rather than read the bible for yourself. So I won’t be traumatized. But, before hailing this potential decision as a victory for Christianity. I have news for you. It is not. There is nothing Christian about criminalizing abortion in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.

Here are a few jolts of reality as to the consequence of this egregious decision.

Suppose your fourteen-year-old middle schooler is ganged raped by a bunch of odious miscreants on her way home from school or from an errand, and she got pregnant from that heinous encounter; this Supreme Court decision will allow your State to force your child to carry the product of that rape to term andraised the baby while in middle school, including dealing with the permanent mental scar that will ensue.

Take a pause and think about that.

The same situation above will apply if your perverted husband, brother, or uncle decided to have his way with your minor daughter and got her pregnant in the process. The embryo of such incestuous relationship will be allowed to be born, and the little girl will be made to carry the mental anguish for the rest of her life.

Now are you paying attention?

How about kids who desperately want to avoid the shame and perpetual pain of carrying an unwanted pregnancy? Do you think criminalizing abortion will dissuade them? I doubt it.

Instead, they will resort to illegal and unsafe abortion methods, exposing them to mistreatment, abuse, and even death.

By now, I am sure you know where I am going with this.

So, before you applaud this decision as a win for the right to life or champion the embryo’s cause, consider the consequences to the living if such burdening law is allowed to stand.

Is it not hypocritical of you to say the unborn should be allowed to live, yet you ignore the plight of the living who desperately need to sustain life? How are you pro-life when you turn your back to the lonely, poor, and abandoned woman who had the misfortune of being raped or abused and cannot afford to have a child. The striking obviousness of her pain as she cries for relief due to the impending torture forced on her. Yet she must endure the ruthless and violent sentence of carrying the fetus to term. An underserving punishment imposed by the government and the religious bigots who run it- condemning her to a lifetime of chagrin and humiliation for an act that she did not bring on herself?

Is the life of a two-week-old fetus in the womb more valued than the life of the begotten?

I ask you, is she not the least amongst us that the Jesus Christ you professed to follow preached?

You say you are followers of Christ and his teachings, yet you thrash the most basic tenets of the Christian faith. Which is “love for thy neighbor.

If you wholeheartedly desire to do God’s work, rather than keepscores of winners and losers or placarding only the unborn’s rights, profess your love for Christ by following his teachings, which emphasize protecting the vulnerable living among us.

Rather than condemnation, embrace them by easing off their burden. And then join 72 percent of the American public who say no to the overturning of Roe v. Wade. No to criminalizing abortion.  And an affirmative no to taking away a woman’s right to choose. The eyes of the world are on you.

  1. ??this is a masterpiece from the heart.
Good enough for the State that voices are being raised.Over here in Nigeria,we are so neck deep into our so called Christianity that our young ones die in their numbers because they don’t have a right to freely work into a hospital and demand for professional services such as this hence pharmacies and other unlikely places have been converted to make shift hospital just to perform the act of abortion. I totally agree with your submissions.
