The presidential candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP) Prince Adewole Adebayo says the country has recurring problems because a proper government is not in place.

Prince Adebayo made this claim while speaking at the NBA State of the Nation Dialogue with Presidential Candidates.

The presidential hopeful for the forthcoming election, who cited security as one of the challenges facing the nation, noted that the situation can be resolved if a proper leader is elected to set up a proper government.

According to him, government officials do not man their offices as expected.

In his words, “The first thing that will guarantee insecurity is to elect a proper Commander in Chief and that Commander in Chief will set up a proper government.

“There could be differences in stylistics, in doctrine, in methods ; that if you elect for example, my brother Malik, he’s not going to govern the way I will govern, same way for any other person.

“However, fundamentally, there must be a government in place and once you have a government in place, you will not see most of the elements you see today. What is happening in Nigeria is that because we have incumbent, but there is no government.

“That is to say, people are not manning their post but in our government, what we will do is to ensure that people are manning their post.”

The renowned lawyer added that other institutions should work, including Police, Navy, Airforce and the likes.

He added that “What I want us to understand clearly, happening in our country today is that we are assuming that security means law enforcement or public safety. Security means people in the country, being able to have a psychological state of mind that the system works for them and then they become supportive of the system.

“What is happening, which we are coming to correct is that right from the Commander in Chief to the Vice President to people working in the State House, the ministers – they are sabotaging the system because their objectives and purposes conflicts with Public interest.

“If you are using security to raise funds for your party, already there is a conflict between your party’s interest and pubic interest. If you are promoting people in the Service in relation to your personal agenda, rather than professionalism.

“In essence, we don’t have any unique security situation in Nigeria. Our situations are mild compared to powers of our size, Turkey, Egypt and South Africa.

“What is giving us headache is that we don’t have a government in place. So a simple situation that should be dealth with by a Constable or a Divisional Police Officer is now becoming a major crisis and that is what we need to put in place.”
