Winners and losers at Billboard 2021

The Billboard Music Awards 2021 (BBMAs), held at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, California on May 23, 2021 was hosted by Nick Jonas.

The award was based on the chart period of March 21, 2020 to April 3, 2021, produced by Dick Clark productions and owned by MRC.

The major highlight of the day include Drake who won the artist of the decade, and was accompanied by his son, Adonis, to receive the award.

Other highlights include The Weeknd, BTS, Bad Bunny and Pop Smoke, who left the show with at least four awards.

Biggest winners

The Weeknd
Major highlight of the night, The Weekend ‘Blinding Lights’ with about 16 appearances including top male artist and top Hot 100 artist. The Weeknd won 10 awards including Top R&B Male artist, Top Hot 100 songs, Top Radio song, Top R&B album e.t.c. His song, ‘Blinding lights’, won most of the awards, making him the top on the list.

Dababy
Although this artiste won just two awards, top streaming song, and top rap song, he is an 11-time finalist with nine categories with double appearances in top streaming songs and top collaboration.

Pop Smoke
The late rapper had 10 categories, he won five awards including Top Rap artist, Top Rap Male artist, and Top Rap Album.

Gabby Barrett – Gabby Barrett, a nine-time finalist and female artist with the most nods, won three awards including Top country song and Top collaboration.

BTS
The Korean pop band, BTS, won four awards with their song ‘Dynamite’.

Morgan Wallen
Country singer, Morgan Wallen, a six-time finalist with five categories, won three awards including Top Country album and Top country male artist. However, the singer couldn’t attend because of a video scandal where he was caught saying the N-Word.

Biggest losers
Dababy
Although this singer was included in the biggest winners, he is also one of those many had hoped will be on top of the BBMAs this year, considering how he appeared 11 times in 9 categories but only went home with 2 awards for song ‘ROCKSTAR’.

Cardi B
Female rapper was nominated four times with hopes of winning at least one with her song, ‘WAP’, which was one of the top streamed songs in 2020. However, she lost the rap female artist to Megan Thee Stallion.

Justin Bieber
Canadian singer Bieber was also nominated so many times, however, left with nothing. His new album, ‘Justice’, his sixth studio album, has been topping the chart since its release, March 2021.

Ariana Grande
Another ignored artist this year is Ariana Grande. The artist, who is more focused on her personal life this year, was greatly ignored. She did not win any award even after many appearances.

Chris Brown
This R&B singer appeared at least five times on the list but didn’t win any award.

The ceremony honoured Pink as an icon, Trae Tha Truth was honoured as the Change Maker and Drake as the artist of the decade.
