A group of Nigerian women, Friday, trooped out in their numbers to celebrate the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the February 23 2019 election.

The women, under the aegis of “Coalition for Good Governance for Democracy” who stormed the Unity Fountain, Abuja under the leadership of Mrs Mary Onuche and Mrs. Susan Waibode-Lokpobiri, wife of the Minister for State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Heineken Lokpobiri, also urged Mr. Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the last election to congratulate his opponent.

Speaking with Kaftan Post on behalf of the women group, Mrs. Susan Waibode-Lokpobiri said the purpose for which God has accepted President Buhari to lead the Nation again was enough for the celebration.

“Power comes from God and only God knows whom he chooses as a leader. The will of God has been done, what is left for us as a nation was to synergise in support of Mr. President for the development of the country. The Next Level of growth and development of Nigeria will be achieved if we come together as a people in support of the government”.

Speaking with Kaftan Post, Comrade Onyilo Douglas, a member of the Coalition and supporter of the Nigerian project, said he joined the rally in celebration of the resounding victory of President Buhari because he has seen how Nigerian governments in the pre-Buhari era operated without the interest of the poor masses.

“President Buhari meant well for Nigerians and that is why his policies and programme are channeled towards the poor. The high level of socio-economic inequality in the past has been breached geometrically by this government. In today’s Nigeria, both the poor and rich can now enter public transport together, eat the same number of square meals a day unlike in the past where only the rich smiles.

Buhari’s policy on Agriculture has also made millions of Nigerian farmers become car owners and millions now own their personal houses. The influx of rural urban migration has greatly reduced in Buhari’s regime. What we experienced today is urban rural migration as a result of the boom in the Agricultural substructure. Farming is now a hubby because the value chain is high”.

Speaking during the rally, the convener, Mary Onuche, also urged Mr. Atiku Abubakar to emulate the former President Goodluck Jonathan and congratulate President Muhammadu Buhari on winning the election.

“The foremost opposition candidate in the election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) should not shy from playing the role of an elder statesman. This requires that he is seen, ab initio, as putting the interest of Nigeria first, a requirement that has been made even more important by unscrupulous persons waiting in the wings to exploit any contentions over the polls to their own dark advantage.

“Fortunately for Nigeria, our democracy, though still young, has continued to evolve in ways that reassure us that things can get better. One such leap is the development in 2015 when the then President Goodluck Jonathan called to congratulate the then winner of the presidential election, incumbent President Buhari, even before the votes’ tally was completed. That singular act of patriotism is today hailed as the benchmark of the level of statesmanship befitting of candidates in our elections.

“We, therefore, call on Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to emulate the statesmanship of President Jonathan and congratulate President Buhari. He is free to approach the courts to ventilate his grievances.

The group also reminded President Muhammadu Buhari that the overwhelming majority of Nigerians did not repose their confidence in him for nothing and that every stone should be left unturned in a bid to ensure that dividends of democracy are delivered by ensuring the security of lives and properties in the aftermath of the election.
