Confirmed cases of coronavirus pandemic have increased to 2,950 in Nigeria, KAFTAN Post reports.

This is after 148 new infections were recorded in the country on Tuesday.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control made this known on its website.

The NCDC noted that five patients died or coronavirus-related complications in the last 24 hours.

NCDC announced this on its website on Tuesday night.

“On the 5th of May 2020, 148 new confirmed cases and 5 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.

No new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.

“Till date, 2950 cases have been confirmed, 481 cases have been discharged and 98 deaths have been recorded in 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

“The 148 new cases are reported from 16 states- Lagos(43), Kano(32), Katsina(9), FCT(10), Zamfara(14), Taraba(7), Borno(7), Ogun(6), Oyo(5), Edo(3), Kaduna(3), Adamawa(2), Gombe(2), Plateau(1), Sokoto(1), Kebbi(1)”.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has backtracked after attributing the mysterious deaths in Kano State to COVID-19.

KAFTAN Post reports that since recording its first case of the disease on April 11, Kano has witnessed strange demises which the state government attributed to other causes but COVID-19.

After an extensive analysis, Coordinator of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in the state, Sani Gwarzo, told reporters on Sunday that the deaths were as a result of COVID-19“.

However, Health Minister, Osagie Ehanire, on Tueaday stated that there is no evidence that this deaths are related to coronavirus.

Furthermore, NCDC’s inability to test anyone in Kogi State amid accusation of covering up by the Kogi State Government has received knocks for allegedly defaulting in testing amidst growing concerns of COVID-19 suspected cases and mysterious deaths around the state.
