193 new cases take Nigeria’s COVID-19 cases above 5000, with 5162 total, 1180 discharged and 167 deaths, Lagos and Kano have yet to peak

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Nigeria has now exceeded 5,000 following confirmation of 193 new cases of COVID-19 infections on Thursday night.

Announcing this on its official twitter handle, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said the country on Thursday, recorded 193 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of infections in Nigeria to 5,162.

The NCDC also explained that three new patients have been confirmed dead to the virus in Nigeria, bringing the total number of deaths to 167.

“On the 14th of May 2020, 193 new confirmed cases and 3 deaths were recorded in Nigeria “No new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours”.

As of the time of filling this report, 5,162 cases have been confirmed, 1180 cases have been discharged and 167 deaths have been recorded in 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The 193 new cases are reported from 15 states- Lagos(58), Kano(46), Jigawa(35), Yobe(12), FCT(9), Ogun(7), Plateau(5), Gombe(5), Imo(4), Edo(3), Kwara(3), Borno( 3), Bauchi (1), Nasarawa (1), Ondo (1).

30,657 samples have been tested since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country.

Meanwhile, Lagos State remains the epicentre of the disease in Nigeria.

Till date, NCDCC said there were 2,041 COVID-19 infections in the state including 33 fatalities.

The state Health Ministry disclosed on Thursday evening via Twitter that the state has discharged 13 more COVID-19 patients.

It said the patients, two females, and 11 males, were all Nigerians, adding that the total recoveries had risen to 541.

“13 COVID-19 patients; 2 females and 11 males; all Nigerians have been discharged from our Isolation facilities at Yaba and Lagos University Teaching Hospital to reunite with the society.

“The patients; 4 from Mainland Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba and 9 from LUTH Isolation Centres have fully recovered and tested negative twice consecutively to COVID-19

“With this, the number of patients successfully managed & discharged in Lagos has risen to 541,” it explained.
