2023: Political parties sign Peace Accord in Borno

Leaders of political parties in Brono State have signed a peace accord committing themselves to a peaceful campaign ahead of the 2023 elections.

Presided by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Abdu Umar, at the command’s headquarters in Maiduguri, he said the command had recorded eleven cases of political violence since the commencement of campaigns in the state.

He said “Police would deal with anyone found wanting according to the law of of land”

Umar added that the Peace Accord was designed to facilitate elections devoid of thuggery, hate speech, violence and fake news.

He said political parties, on behalf of their Chairmen, have signed to abide by the Constitution, the electoral act 2022, INEC rules and guidelines in the conduct of their campaigns.

Political parties present are the All Progressives Congress(APC), Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

The Peace Accord signing was witnessed by heads/ representatives of all security and paramilitary agencies in the State as well as the representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
