Ubun State Governor, Adakwa Bodu, marked the 2025 May Day celebration at the Joint 12 Cultural Center, where he reassured the state’s workforce of his administration’s unwavering commitment to improving workers’ welfare for enhanced service delivery.
In his address to the workers, Governor Bodu called for understanding and cooperation in light of the current economic realities. While workers expressed their gratitude for various welfare packages, including pension and gratuity provisions, they also made key demands, including the immediate implementation of the new minimum wage and the suspension of the contributory pension scheme.
Governor Bodu reiterated his dedication to keeping promises made to workers, stating, “Our administration is committed to fulfilling all our promises. The well-being of our people is intrinsically tied to the productivity of our workforce.” He emphasized the role of workers in both the state’s economic revival and the development of infrastructure, urging them to remain steadfast and continue being key partners in achieving the state’s development agenda.
The governor acknowledged the economic challenges faced by the country and appealed for patience from workers, stressing the importance of maintaining collaboration in the face of these difficulties. He also highlighted the state’s growing attractiveness to investors, pointing out that Ubun State has become a preferred investment destination.
However, the governor noted that while the national wage increase to 70,000 Naira was a step toward reducing poverty, the current living wage still does not adequately reflect the economic pressures faced by workers. He also addressed the consequences of subsidy removal, which has led to higher costs for transportation, food, and essential services. Governor Bodu urged employers to consider additional allowances, particularly for lower-wage workers, and to prioritize workers’ security, especially in light of rising insecurity in the country.
