The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has issued a directive to all its Local Government and Ward Chairmen to immediately begin the registration of newly defected members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), without placing any conditions or procedural demands.
The instruction, which came from the APC State Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, was communicated through the State Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, Esq.
According to the party, the directive follows what it described as an unprecedented political realignment that occurred on April 28, 2025, when the entire executive structure of the PDP in Delta State — from ward level to the state level — defected en masse to the APC. The move was led by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other influential political stakeholders in the state.
“This momentous development signals a new era for our great party and must be handled with a sense of unity, inclusion, and openness,” the party said in its official statement.
The APC has now mandated all its grassroots leaders to eliminate all bureaucratic barriers that could hinder the smooth registration of the new members. The party emphasized that any action aimed at discouraging or excluding new entrants from full participation in party activities will not be tolerated.
“Any act capable of alienating or discouraging our new entrants from participating fully in party activities shall not be tolerated,” the APC stressed.
Describing the development as a time of growth, unity, and strategic consolidation, the party called on all its members to embrace the defectors in a spirit of brotherhood and progressiveness.
“Let us work together to build a stronger, united APC that reflects the aspirations of all Deltans under the leadership of His Excellency, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, the Executive Governor of Delta State,” the statement added.
The mass defection marks a critical turning point in Delta State’s political landscape and positions the APC for increased dominance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
