403 new COVID-19 cases top 16,085, with 5,220 cured, 420 dead 3 months after Nigeria’s case, as Gombe beats Lagos with shocking 73 cases

Nigeria on Sunday recorded 403 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 16,085.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) revealed this on its official twitter handle.

The agency also said no fewer than 420 patients have died of coronavirus-related complications in Nigeria, while the country currently has 10,445 active Coronavirus cases.

It said, “On the 14th of June 2020, 403 new confirmed cases and 13 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.

“No new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.

“Till date, 16085 cases have been confirmed, 5220 cases have been discharged and 420 deaths have been recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

“The 403 new cases are reported from 20 states- Gombe(73), Lagos(68), Kano(46), Edo(36), FCT(35), Nasarawa(31), Kaduna(17), Oyo(16), Abia(15), Delta(13), Borno(13), Plateau(eight), Niger(seven), Rivers(seven), Enugu(six), Ogun(six), Kebbi(three), Ondo(one), Anambra(one), Imo(one).”

Since the onset of the outbreak in Nigeria in February, NCDC said 92, 924 samples have so far been tested.

A breakdown of the 16,085 confirmed cases shows that Lagos State has so far reported 8,003 cases, followed by FCT – 1,412, Kano – 1, 137, Ogun – 553, Edo – 580, Rivers – 489, Oyo – 507, Borno – 447, Katsina – 414, Kaduna – 446, Bauchi – 410, Gombe – 492 Jigawa – 317, Delta – 267, Ebonyi – 162, Abia – 166, Kwara – 150, Plateau – 156, Sokoto – 132, Nasarawa – 172, Imo – 136, Zamfara – 76, Ondo – 64, Anambra – 65, Yobe – 53. Osun – 50, Kebbi – 50, Niger – 49, Akwa Ibom – 48, Adamawa – 42, Enugu – 52, Bayelsa – 32, Ekiti – 30, Taraba – 18, Benue – 34, and Kogi – 3.

Meanwhile, the Oyo State COVID-19 Task Force has declared free COVID-19 tests for all residents in the ongoing community testing across the state.

This came as the task force disclosed that results for 22 suspected COVID-19 cases in the state came back positive.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, who made the disclosure via his verified Twitter handle, on Sunday, announced that the total number of confirmed cases in the state had risen to 491.

He tweeted, “If you have any strange fever or sudden loss of taste/smell, please visit the nearest community-based testing centre to get tested for COVID-19.

“The COVID-19 confirmation tests for 22 suspected cases came back positive. The cases are from Oluyole (6); Lagelu (4); Ibadan South East (3); Ido (2); Ibadan South West (2); Ibadan North West (2); Ibadan North (1); Egbeda (1); and Akinyele (1) local government areas.

“So, the total number of confirmed cases in Oyo State today is 491.”
