An aide to the Kano governor, Salihu Yakasai, has called for President Muahammdu Buhari’s resignation over Nigeria’s worsening security situation.

Yakasai made this comment in reaction to the news of the abduction of 300 female students of GGSS Jangebe, Zamfara, on Friday.

It would be recalled that he was previously suspended for criticising Mr. Buhari, tweeted on Friday, berating and describing as a failure the president and the ruling All Progressives Congress.

“Clearly, we as APC government, at all levels, have failed Nigerians in the number one duty we were elected to do, which is to secure lives and properties,” Yakassai said.

“Not a single day goes by without some sort of insecurity in this land. This is a shame! Deal with terrorists decisively or resign.”

The schoolgirls were kidnapped from their school, GSS Jangebe Secondary School, around midnight.

Nine days ago, bandits breached a high school in Niger State and seized about 29 students and school administrators.

It has been alleged that the federal government paid $2.099 million (N800 million) as ransom, but the students and their teachers were not released after Governor Abubakar Sani-Bello caught wind of the arrangement and instigated a cordoning of the vast forest where the students and their abductors have been held up.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, dismissed the rising waves of schoolchildren abduction under President Buhari’s administration.

“Even in the most developed countries in the world, school kidnappings take place,” he said
