Adamawa gets Agro Rangers Squad

Barely two days after the inauguration of National Livestock Transformation Plan by Federal Government, the Adamawa Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has inaugurated Agro Rangers Squad.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that rangers were created with the aim of tackling farmers/herders conflict in the state.

Mr Nurudeen Abdullahi, the state Commandant NSCDC inaugurated the squad on Thursday in Yola.

Abdullahi said the creation of the squad was on course to complement federal government efforts in finding lasting solution to the lingering farmers-herders’ conflicts.

“The squad was trained with additional combat skills to safeguard and protect grazing reserves across the state.

“The idea to form and train the squad is aimed to have lasting solutions to the farmers/herders crisis,” Abdullahi said.

He assured that with the creation of the special squad, farmer /herders’ conflict would be over in the state.

Gov Umaru Fintiri, represented by Ahmadu Baji, Permanent Secretary, Security, said the state government recently inaugurated new brand of vehicles to be distributed to security agencies in the state.

He said the development was aimed at improving security in the state.
The Lamido of Adamawa, Alhaji Muhammadu Musdafa, represented by Alhaji Mustpha Aminu, urged the corps to embark on sensitisation of the public about the programme.

Musdafa assured of the emirate council’s support in achieving the laudable programme.

Commission supports 200,000 IDPs in Adamawa
The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) has supported food and non-food items to over 200,000 refugees in Adamawa.

Sen. Basheer Garba, the Federal Commissioner of NCFRMI, presented the items at Malkohi IDPs camp on Thursday in Yola.

Garba said the intervention was the consistent efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration in bringing an end to insurgency and all forms of criminality.

He said the provision of the relief materials was aimed at improving living condition of the hundreds of thousands of refugees in the state.
“President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration is working assiduously to making displaced communities in Nigeria safe.

“In achieving this, it is our belief and prayer that in no distance time, our displaced persons will become self-reliant and ultimately agents of their own durable solutions,” Garba said.

Dr Mohammed Sulaiman, the Executive Secretary, Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), said the state has about 200,000 refugees currently.

“Some of the refugees are sheltered in some IDPs camps, while others are spread within host communities across the state,” Suleiman said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the items distributed by the commission included care, maintenance, educational and empowerment materials, among others.
