Renowned legal practitioner, Dr Adewole Adebayo, has written off the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) following the completion of its national convention.

According to Dr Adebayo, with the manner the exercise was conducted, the opposition governors have cemented their status as the party’s “Electoral College”, hence concluding that there is no hope for Nigerians.

The media entrepreneur made this known in a statement on Sunday in reaction to the party’s national convention.

Recall that former Senate President, Iyorcha Ayu, was elected the party’s National Chairman while Taofeek Arapaja emerged as the Deputy National Chairman (South).

Ayu, who was the consensus candidate, garnered 3,426 affirmative votes out of 3,511 accredited voters.

But Dr Adebayo said the exercise was a mere jamboree where the governors met and allotted positions, adding that same script will play out ahead of the 2023 general elections.

“There is no hope for Nigerians from PDP,” he said.

“The Governors have cemented their status as the party’s Electoral College. They meet and share the positions. Same thing will happen when it is time to choose their presidential and governorship and legislative candidates”.

The legal practitioner added that the “APC will follow the same gubernatorial hijack with some presidential aides in the mix.

“APC and PDP have the same anti-people, anti-democratic modus operandi. Nothing good can come out of them because they have refused to learn from the past, change their ways but rather are consolidating on their choke-hold on the throats of the Nigerian people.”

Dr Adebayo, however, urged that “Our Third Force has to be stronger, highly competent and more decisive because even though APC and PDP are regressive in intent and retrogressive in agenda, they are recruiting from the intellectual wing of the elite.”

He described Ayu as a very articulate thinker and speaker.

“We need to meet him toe to toe. We should not be surprised if APC starts to look for another egghead to front their own gang to explain away their own obvious failures in governance.”
