The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the last elections, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has lashed out at President Bola Tinubu over his inaugural speech.

In a tweet on Monday, the renowned legal practitioner described the President’s address as careless, especially on the fuel subsidy removal.

He wrote: “I don’t want to seem impatient or trigger-happy in criticism of brand-new @officialABAT. But it is not a neat way to announce a cost-driving macroeconomic policy like fuel ‘subsidy’ removal by just dropping it in an inaugural address. We need shock absorbers first. Renewed Hope?”

Tinubu exclaimed “subsidy is gone” during his inaugural address at Eagle Square, Abuja, shortly after he was sworn in as the 16th President of Nigeria.

The president said there was no provision for subsidy in the national budget from June 2023 and, therefore, it stands removed.
