The most anticipated night is almost around the corner and we can’t but throw it back to some of the most memorable moments that took place on the red carpet and the event itself.

Just like international movie award nights like the Oscars, Emmys, Golden Globe and more, the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Award is a night for the stars to celebrate.

An event set aside to reward filmmakers and notable celebrities for their craft and bringing the art and sweats to our screens.

The event had set itself so high with many concluding that this is indeed the Africa’s Met Gala. The celebrities battle for the win with their outstanding outfits representing their favourite designers.

And how can we forget events laid out before and after the main award night. A cultural night was recently added to the line of events among other moments. The after party whooshhh!!! That’s the real moment!  You know how we love to stay glued to our TVs after the MET Gala fiesta to see what the celebrities wear for the after party? Yes! We do the same for the AMVCA, especially when we have our favourites winning for the night.

Before the 9th edition of the event kick start, here are some memorable events of the past award night.

Outrageous Outfits
Who can hide the whiff of Toyin Lawani’s craft when it comes to her jaw dropping styles on the red carpet? It’s not unnoticeable. Ranging from Ifunnada’s skull outfit who revealed the most outrageous amount spent ($100k), to Omashola’s skull ensemble, and many more, you can not but wonder what goes on in their stylists’ heads.

The Best Dressed And Worst
As with many events, critics are always squeezed in between curtains, doors and the carpet to see the next person to be sanctioned or praised. It’s inevitable. The fashion police’s radars are everywhere. The event also rewards the best dressed for both male and female.

Sabinus’ Win
Just when the organisers decided to give opportunities to the skit makers and content creators for the first time, to recognise their hard work, Oga Sabinus who is well known for his content and relatable memes snatched the win from creators like Mr Macaroni, Taaooma, Kie Kie, Elozonam Ogbolu, Edem Victor, Tee Kuro and Jacqueline Suowari.

Apparently, he had enough fan base to shake other nominees. His surprised look at his win was out of the world and his speech was quite emotional yet hilarious.

Iyabo Ojo; What was the problem?
One of the best TikTok creators and Nollywood actress fumbled on the stage when she was paired with her number one rival from RHOLagos, Caroline Hutchings. Be it anxiety or excitement for the winner, the actress had called out the winner before the nominees were called out. We sure do know AMVCA would have a rethink next time her name pops up as an award presenter.

Living In Bondage
Popular socialite, Prince Mike of Lagos is one of the most anticipated for the night as he’s promised to bring another scare to our screens with his crafts. Prince Mike with his entourage of ladies have showcased a number of insane moments at events, AMVCA inclusive. He had made his way to the red carpet with horns, pregnant women, women with male organs and many more. We await what is next to come.

The End To A World Of Beef
Actresses Iyabo Ojo and Funke Akindele who were at the time not in good terms had a heartfelt hug on stage after Iyabo Ojo presented the award to Funke. The duo had fallen out allegedly over Iyabo’s support for Toyin Abraham’s movie during the same time Funke’s movie, ‘Omo Ghetto, the Saga’ was being promoted and shown at the cinemas.

Siblings’ Love & Success
Nothing came close to seeing real life expressions to one’s success as the one seen on Dakore Egbuson’s face when she presented the award for the ‘Best Actor for the Elevator Baby’ movie to her baby brother, Timini Egbuson. It was an exciting picture.

Chris Rock And Will Smith’s Wannabes
Shortly after the Oscars’ regrettable stunt pulled by Will Smith by slapping his colleague on stage after the comedian joked about Will’s wife, Jada, one would think it would have ended overseas but no, they shipped it down to Lagos, Nigeria, either by air or by water.

The host for the night, IK Osakioduwa had joked about actor Deyemi Okanlawon and another actress and this had provoked the actor who tried to caution the presenter with Will Smith’s words at the Oscars. However, IK had continued, resulting in Deyemi in a rage moving towards the stage to either slap or confront the presenter, he was quickly stopped by the bouncers. Till today, we are yet to know if it was indeed an act or reality played just right in our faces.

There were other moments like Osas Ighodaro winning her first AMVCA award for the Best Actress in a Drama and how she became so emotional on stage, to actor Odunlade Adekola giving a savage response to a presenter who asked what he came to the event for. The actor said he came to play at the award show.
