Governor Willie Obiano has described the ongoing governorship election in Anambra State as “peaceful”.

Obiano made this known shortly after casting his ballot alongside his wife Ebelechukwu.

The governor arrived at his polling unit at Eri Primary School, Unit 004, Otuocha 1, Aguleri, Anambra East LGA at about 9:30am.

Obiano said he was impressed with the voter turnout and also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“I am very happy to have exercised my civic responsibility. I want to ask all Anambra citizens wherever they are to come out en masse and vote. We can see everywhere is peaceful, and that is the way it is across the state,” he said.

There are 5,720 polling units across 21 local governments in the state.

The frontline candidates for the election include Andy Uba of the All Progressives Congress (APC); Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA); Valentine Ozigbo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); and Ifeanyi Ubah of the Young Progressives Party (YPP).
