Senator Rochas Okorochas has asked Nigerians and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to expect surprise from President Muhammadu Buhari in his choice of presidential candidate.
The former Imo State Governor said Buhari is unpredictable and may get everyone unawares.
Rochas Okorocha was commenting on the battle for the APC presidential ticket when he appeared on a television program on Tuesday evening.
Okorocha is one of the aspirants gunning for the APC presidential ticket in a bid to succeed Buhari in 2023.
The former governor said that the president might have a preferred candidate, but he had not made that public.
He added that Buhari’s choice of a successor would be guided by the mood of the nation, interest of the people, the APC, among other factors.
In his words, “If you know President Muhammadu Buhari, he is a general and unpredictable. You cannot predict what he will do. He may pull everybody by surprise.
“Buhari is very intelligent as he may decide to consider some factors: he will look at the mood of the nation and see who will actually fit into the mood of the nation; who will win the election for the APC because definitely he doesn’t want to lose his seat to the PDP. So, he will be smart enough to say this person can and that (person) cannot; there will be a lot of consultations.”
Okorocha added that the party is considering the nation not only the party, as the PDP is quietly watching to see if the APC will stumble by producing a poor candidate.
