APC senator, Uwajumogu dies, party, Senate President, colleagues mourn

Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu, a member of the All Progressives Party (APC) representing Imo State in the National Assembly is dead. He died on Wednesday morning.
The sudden death was a shock to many especially his colleagues in the senate and the ruling party.
President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, while expressing shock and sadness over the tragic news of the death of Sen. Uwajumogu , commiserated with the family of the deceased and the government and people of Imo State.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Ola Awobiyi, Lawan also condoled with senators and friends of the departed politician.
He recalled that Uwajumogu was full of life at the Senate Chamber on Tuesday, which made the news of his death even more difficult to take.
“But God gives and takes in line with his supreme sovereignty so we cannot question His will.
“Senator Uwajumogu’s sudden death is shocking and a painful loss to the 9th National Assembly where he always made robust contributions to the debates and other activities of the Upper legislative chamber.
“He will be greatly missed by all of us, his colleagues and staff of the senate,” lawan said.
The senate president prayed that God almighty will comfort his loved ones and grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.
Some of his colleagues have equally expressed shock over his death, describing it as a great loss to the Senate, given his steering contributions on the floor of the Senate.
Sen  Smart Adeyemi (APC Kogi) said Uwajumogu was somebody he was looking forward to working with, given his open mindedness.
“He is quite a humble person and very intelligent person; he is somebody I talked with since I came.
“It is very painful, we talked about how we could cement the country, most of things he was saying was how the unity of the country could be further strengthened.
“There was no sign of ailment on him, he was on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday but he did not show sign of somebody who is sick.
“We did not believe it when we first heard of his death, because he was very active on Tuesday.
Also reacting, Sen. Peter Nwaoboshi (PDP Delta), described the death of Unwajumogu as very painful.
In his reaction, Senate Deputy Chief Whip, Sabi Abdullahi, described as unfortunate, the death of Sen. Ben Uwajumogu.
He stated this in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Wednesday.
Senate Spokesman, Sen.Godiya Akwashiki had earlier confirmed the death of Uwajumogu in an interview with NAN.
“He was one of the last to be sworn in as senator in the 9th Senate. May God rest his soul,” he said.
Similarly, Senate Minority Leader Enyinnaya Abaribe described the death  of Uwajumogu as a huge loss to Nigeria, his constituents and in particular, Imo.
“I am saddened by his death. It is very sad that he died at this time. Ben was simply a good fellow, an erudite legislator, a fine gentleman, a loving husband and father.
”He is indeed a senator of Nigeria, very patriotic. We shall sorely miss him,” Abaribe said
NAN recalls that Uwajumogu took oath of officr on July 26 as senator representing Imo North Senatorial District.
His opponent in the Feb. 23 election, Patrick Ndubueze, said that the election was inconclusive.
Uwajumogu before his death was the senator representing Imo North Senatorial district and was a member of the All Progressives Congress Party (APC)
