Civil society group, Arewa Lives Matter, has condemned an attack on the convoy of Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, by suspected Boko Haram terrorists.

In a statement by Secretary-General, Ahmed Baba Dikwa, on Sunday, the group described the incident as “sad and appalling”.

“This is sad and appalling and a confirmation that the movement has been right all along,” he said.

“We have said time and time again that there is a lot that needs to be done.

“How can Baga with about 1,181 soldiers yet Boko Haram terrorists were able to access his entourage at close range?”

KaftanPost had reported that Mr Zulum survived an ambush by gunmen while on a trip to Monguno and Baga towns to distribute food to IDPs.

Zulum, in reaction, on Sunday, insisted that President Muhammadu Buhari must know the truth about the security situation in the North-East.

He maintained that there is sabotage in the system that will not allow terrorists to stop operating in the region.

The Governor spoke on Sunday during a meeting with his counterparts from Kebbi and Jigawa States, Atiku Bagudu and Badaru Abubakar respectively, who paid him a solidarity visit over the recent attack in Baga.

He said, “Let me also re-echo my previous position with respect to the level of insurgency in Borno State. I earlier said that the gravity of the insurgency cannot be compared with what has happened between 2011 to 2015, and 2015 to date. Yes, it’s true. The President has done well.

“But there’s sabotage in the system that will not allow the insurgency to end; the President has to know this very important point.”
